Frequently Asked Questions

What should we do to prepare for the session?

  • Bring your dog's favorite treats! Preferably broken up into small pieces that are easy for them eat. I also bring a selection of treats, and will confirm any possible allergies at the time of booking
  • Your favorite collar. Please remove tags if possible, unless you have one you would love to include in images
  • A thin leash. Please avoid bulky leashes, as they are more difficult to remove in post processing
  • Your dog's favorite toys. Squeakers are fantastic - or whatever will get them excited!
  • Poop bags, just in case they are needed! (Don't worry if you forget, I always have extra on hand!)
  • For dogs with long hair that covers the eyes, it is recommended to bring a tie or clip

What if it looks like it's going to rain?

  • In the case of rain or weather conditions that are not beneficial for a photoshoot, we will reschedule to a mutual agreed upon rain date. I do my best to keep an eye on the weather conditions and communicate with clients as early as possible about rescheduling.

How many people can I bring for the session?

  • To minimize distraction, it is best to bring only one other person. Although I love children, it is preferred that only adults be present for the shoot. This way we can keep the attention on us, as dog's can and do get distracted. Having a smaller number of people present makes it easier to work with the dog to get stunning photographs. If interested in family portraits - we will discuss and arrange it ahead of time so that we will work in two parts - focusing on the dog, then the family.

What if my dog can't be off-leash?

  • Not a problem! Dog's can remain on a leash for the session. We can utilize long lines, or thin leashes that will be edited out in post production. Safety always comes first. During the session I will show you how to best hold the leash to make removal during editing easier.

Do you travel?

  • I do! Travel is included in and around the York Region area. (Roughly within 30 minutes of Richmond Hill). There are many parks and locations here that are beautiful backdrops for photos. I am also more than happy to come to you if you have a favorite place or specific location in mind. Additional mileage will be charged at $0.50/km.

Do you only photograph dogs? Can I be in them too?

  • Of course! I love photos that capture the relationship between people and dogs. If you want to be included in some of the photos, just let me know at the time of booking. This will all be discussed during the pre-session consultation. We'll go over what type of images you are looking for, and this will help me custom tailor your session.
